Job Description
This position is located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the General Counsel, Natural Resources and Environment Division, the incumbent serves as an attorney providing legal advice, research, analysis and interpretation of federal, state and local laws, as well as oral and written opinions, memoranda, pleadings, briefs and legal support of all USDA programs and litigation, and performs other legal services as assigned.
Duties- Provides authoritative legal advice and litigation support on complex, high-impact matters involving the U.S. Forest Service and other USDA agencies involving realty matters concerning National Forest System Lands and water resources.
- Develops and advises on litigation strategy for complex cases coordinating closely with the Department of Justice.
- Advises senior leadership on litigation risk.
- Provides expert legal counsel on administrative law and statutory interpretation.
- Provides guidance, mentoring, training, and technical legal expertise within OGC and USDA client agencies.
- Exercises substantial independent judgment on matters of national importance with minimal supervision.
