Employment Law Senior Attorney School Districts & Public Sector Defense

Location: Southern or Northern California | 90% Remote / 10% In-Person
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Compensation:

  • $200,000 - $220,000 based on experience (5+ years required)

About the Role

HireNow Staffing is seeking a seasoned Employment Law Senior Attorney to support a rapidly growing practice focused on representing school districts and public sector employers. This is an opportunity to be a trusted legal advisor on issues at the intersection of employment, education, and compliance while managing meaningful litigation and policy work that shapes district-level decisions.

What You'll Be Doing

Litigation & Risk Defense:

  • Serve as lead defense counsel on employment-related claims involving teachers, school administrators, and support staff.

  • Handle disputes involving wrongful termination, retaliation, harassment, and discrimination.

  • Represent clients in EEOC and state-level investigations, labor board complaints, and other administrative matters.

Executive Legal Counsel:

  • Advise superintendents, HR leaders, and school boards on a broad range of employment matters including FMLA, ADA, Title IX, and union regulations.

  • Draft and review disciplinary actions, employment contracts, and grievance responses.

  • Strategize responses to high-risk employment issues before they escalate to litigation.

Policy Development:

  • Update school district policies on hiring, tenure, conduct, and separation in alignment with California labor codes and educational mandates.

  • Assist with drafting collective bargaining agreements and other union-related legal documentation.

Training & Education:

  • Lead workshops for district administrators on sexual harassment prevention, discrimination laws, employee discipline, and labor relations.

  • Serve as a legal educator and strategic guide to HR teams navigating new regulatory changes.

What You Bring

  • JD and active member of the California Bar in good standing

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in employment law litigation school district/public entity defense required

  • Superior writing, motion practice, and negotiation skills

  • Highly effective communicator with a collaborative spirit

  • Able to manage sensitive legal issues while guiding large institutions
