Job Description

The Global Associate Attorney is a key member of the Global practice, reporting to the Global Managing Partner and working alongside the Global Practice Manager to provide legal support for global (non-US) immigration cases. The Associate provides accurate, timely immigration legal advice to clients throughout the process of international relocation and assists the Managing Partner and Practice Manager with account and process management. Additional responsibilities include high-level review of work produced by Case Managers, oversight of local advisors and other vendors, and participating in the creation of efficient, effective case tools and technologies.


This position supports our Global practice, which is headquartered in Petoskey, Michigan. Remote applicants will be considered and expected to work according to Eastern Time Zone business hours.

 

Global Associate Attorney Responsibilities:

Client Management

  • Provide legal guidance to clients on a wide variety of global immigration matters in a strategic, efficient, client-centric manner utilizing relevant technology resources.
  • Assist in client account management both in terms of initial setup/onboarding/establishment of protocols and ongoing supervision, including development and running of client reports to ensure delivery of excellent client service.
  • Maintain accuracy for high volume, rapid turnover cases and monitor to ensure SLAs are being met by case team.
  • Directly handle VIP or complex global cases on an as-needed basis.
  • Flex hours as needed to accommodate client and destination country time zones, including taking calls to accommodate different time zones.
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations, including quarterly and annual review presentations and country specific presentations.

Team Management & Training

  • Manage team workload distribution, case flow and team dynamics to ensure team is meeting SLAs and billing targets.
  • Train, supervise and collaborate with case managers and case assistants, including performing initial or subsequent reviews of the work they produce and providing mentorship and support on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitor reports, dashboards and case correspondence to ensure SLAs are being met by case managers and case assistants.

Knowledge Management and Practice Management

  • Maintain an advanced understanding of the global immigration legal requirements for the countries relevant to the firm’s clients, including an awareness of any changes to the requirements that would affect the successful delivery of global immigration services to clients.
  • Create, update and organize knowledge resources for internal and external users.
  • With Managing Partner, collaborate in the vetting process for new local advisors and work to engage and train new global local advisors.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Requirements: 

  • Valid membership in an applicable Bar association
  • 1-2 years of global immigration experience (non-US destinations) required; 3+ years preferred 
  • Proven track record of success in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Experience managing multiple competing priorities independently 
  • Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills
