
- Description
Position available in the York-Poquoson Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. Performs professional work representing the Commonwealth of Virginia in court. Prepares and prosecutes cases on behalf of York County and the City of Poquoson. Prepares and prosecutes primarily lower court cases. Prosecutes more complex felony cases, with closer supervision, as needed. Performs legal research; analyzes evidence and documents; and reviews pertinent decisions, policies, regulations, and other legal matters pertaining to cases. Interviews witnesses; determines whether or not to charge a defendant, whether to offer plea agreements, and determines how to try the case; appears against accused in court; and presents evidence and argument. Provides legal advice to law enforcement personnel regarding investigations.
- Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of law and some legal experience. Depending on the functional assignment, other specialized training and experience may be required.
Must be an active member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.

Position is subject to being on-call 24 hours per day, seven days per week to respond to calls from law enforcement officers.
- Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate tools such as pens, pencils, telephone and standard office equipment. There is some walking, climbing of stairs, bending and stooping when retrieving files, and standing in court. Work performed in the office is normally while seated at a desk or in front of a computer.
