
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Legal Assistant to join our Legal Services team serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Legal Assistant enhances attorney effectiveness by maintaining organized files, drafting and filing pleadings, completing administrative tasks, gathering evidence, and maintaining client contact. This is a part-time position requiring approximately 29 hours/week. Hourly rate of pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications within established range.
Reports to: Assistant Director of Legal Services
Main Position Activities:
- Maintain client flies and records with confidentiality, accurate and complete documentation.
- Develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case, scheduling appointments, drafting and filing pleadings, motions and orders, preparing responses to opposing counsel, with guidance from supervisor.
- Maintaining Low Bono Referral network and assisting clients with attorney contact.
- Registering clients for Legal Clinic.
- Collecting and organizing evidence for legal cases.
- Drafting responses to discovery, with guidance from supervisor.
- Preparing and organizing exhibits for court.
- Drafting and responding to subpoenas, with guidance from supervisor.
- Administrative tasks, including but not limited to, organizing physical files, prepping for meetings and hearings, entering time into agency database, and assisting with attorney task management.
- Running reports through agency and legal databases, as needed.
- Preserve and enhance the Agency’s image in the community through all interactions.
- Participate in DCFOF staff and education meetings as requested.

Prerequisites
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other Windows based programs
Preferences
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Some college with a background in social work, counseling or related field

- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Ability to easily climb stairs
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- $20 - $25/hour
