IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Senior Manager, Corporate Governance & Compliance

BUDGET AUTHORITY: Ocean Law                       

FLSA: Exempt

General Summary

Oceana seeks a full-time paralegal to assist the Legal Department. The paralegal will play a vital role in supporting the legal team’s corporate counsel function. The paralegal will be involved in the contract review process, assist with state compliance filings, and complete administrative tasks, among other duties. This position requires someone with excellent written communication skills, great attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple tasks, and a willingness to learn. This position is ideally suited for someone interested in corporate law and non-profit management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The paralegal will work closely with the Senior Manager, Corporate Governance & Compliance and General Counsel on the following:

Essential Functions:

  1. Conduct contract review and processing together with General Counsel for all offices and departments
  2. a.  Work in coordination with IT to keep the Contract Life Cycle Management system updated 
  3. Conduct state reporting for cause marketing agreements
  4. Assist in compiling information for the annual audits
  5. Assist with the organization of corporate counsel files
  6. Manage the administration of Law Dept.:
    1. Prepare for and manage the annual pro bono holiday gifts projects
    2. Schedule welcome and farewell get togethers for the department

Be responsible for scheduling and calendaring meetings/calls for other members of the Law Department, including:

    1. Law Department Meetings
    2. Internal meetings with clients
    3. Calls with outside counsel
    4. Setting up interviews (in-person or via Teams)
  1. Other duties as needed to support the functions of the Law Department

Job Requirements

Education and experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  2. Minimum three years of work experience as a paralegal

Skills and knowledge:

  1. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks
  2. Communicate and collaborate effectively with all international offices and departments
  3. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  1. Must be extremely organized with sharp attention to detail, have a strong work ethic, and possess willingness and ability to learn and contribute when needed
  1. Experience conducting research 
  2. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  3. Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs, Salesforce experience is a plus

The salary range for this position is $67,000 to $ 72,000 annually.

Oceana’s U.S. offices have operated on a hybrid schedule and staff have been required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work remotely Monday and Friday.
