Job Description
Roblox is looking for an experienced Counsel, Litigation & Discovery to join our Legal team. In this role, you will provide management and support for e-discovery and preservation. You will report to our Director, Litigation.
Location: The position is seated at Roblox Headquarters in San Mateo, CA. Roblox’s mandatory in-office days are Tuesday through Thursday with optional in-office days on Monday and Friday.
You will:
- Legal Hold & Preservation:
- Manage and refine the company’s legal hold process, ensuring compliance across all data sources, while "right-sizing" legal holds to avoid unnecessary retention and associated costs
- Work with IT and business units to ensure defensible preservation of relevant ESI.
- Collection & Processing:
- Consult with internal teams and outside counsel to develop and execute targeted, defensible data collection strategies.
- Oversee the transfer, processing, and ingestion of ESI into review platforms
- Refine discovery plans and processes, including document review, privilege logs, and team coordination.
- Coordination of discovery across matters to create efficiencies
- Budget & Vendor Management:
- Track and manage e-discovery costs, ensuring projects are completed within budget.
- Act as the primary liaison and relationship manager for e-discovery service providers (vendors, forensic experts).
- Consultation & Training:
- Maintain and update internal e-discovery playbooks, policies, and best practices documentation.
- Provide expert advice to litigation teams, internal business units, and executive leadership on all e-discovery matters and associated risks.
- Conduct internal training on litigation readiness and preservation best practices.
- Assist other members of the Litigation team with discovery-related tasks as needed.
You have:
- Dedicated, hands-on experience practicing e-discovery, either at a law firm, e-discovery service provider, or as in-house counsel.
- 4+ years of discovery experience, including working with technology companies either in-house or as outside counsel (experience in a fast-paced and dynamic organization preferred).
- Demonstrated technical proficiency regarding common data sources and e-discovery tools (e.g., Relativity, DISCO).
- Experience providing advice on preservation and collection of customer data from proprietary systems.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating ESI protocols and protective orders.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and risk assessment, with a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.

- A highly approachable, collegial, and collaborative approach.
- Accountable and proactive self-starter, comfortable working independently.
- Superb organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once.
- A Member in good standing of the California Bar or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in California.
