Director of Legal Advocacy

Director of Legal Advocacy oversees Victim Liaison Department and provide advocacy and support to victims in the Criminal and Family Court systems in Broome County.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide confidential legal advocacy to victims of crimes.
• Maintain timely and accurate case files.
• Respond to daytime backups and evening on call shifts as needed.
• Refer to other services victims may need.
• Coordinate the Domestic Violence Education Panel.
• Report monthly and quarterly department wide statistics to multiple CVAC departments and various funders.
• Supervise Victim Liaisons.
• Maintain a strong working relationship with the District Attorney’s Office and other community agencies.

• Bachelor degree preferred, minimum associate degree with relevant victim advocacy experience necessary. 
• Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization.
• A sound knowledge of criminal justice system. 
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
• Excellent interpersonal skills-must have the ability to be assertive. 
• Must have the ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
• Must be a team player and be able to work with minimum supervisory oversight.
• Flexible, willing to work off site evenings, and weekends as needed. 
• Car and driver’s license required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  
• Highly developed organizational skills, writing and communication skills necessary.  
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office needed.  Education and commitment to issues of victimization is absolute.  

Must agree to complete 40 hours NY State Dept. of Health training and additional ten hours of ongoing, professional education each subsequent calendar year.
