The Role

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious paralegal to own their role/responsibilities.  The ideal candidate is driven, eager to take charge, and passionate about growth. This role will require someone to manage legal files, recover money, and ensure timely updates from attorneys. The role involves proactive client support, relationship building, and explaining legal processes to clients. Additionally, the paralegal will review and approve attorney invoices, manage legal costs, and ensure accurate financial transactions. Strong knowledge of legal procedures and post-judgment enforcement is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Works Legal Files
    • Recover money
    • Proactively manage legal files, push files ahead for client benefit.
    • Stay on top of attorneys, so they provide timely and concise updates to clients.
    • Hold attorneys accountable, double check their recommendations by doing extra research.
    • Knowledge of legal procedures and post-judgement enforcement options, by jurisdiction, to be meaningfully supportive of clients.
    • Evaluate different accounts (similar) and processes that worked to be successful in a previous case.
  • Client Support + Relationship Building
    • Always acts as client’s agent with their best interests as core focus.
    • Call and introduce yourself to all clients with their first legal file through AFM and explain the legal process to build trust.
    • Know the client’s business (what they do – goods or services, contracts, clients, etc.), goals, expectations, etc. and knowing the legal process, (a) proactively bridge gaps w/attorneys to support clients and (b) reiterate or clarify clients options and perceived concerns that our liaison must be able to proactively forecast.
    • Keep client always proactively updated on their files, make sure they know what by when and we deliver on it beforehand or proactively explain why not, when applicable.
    • Explain legal process/updates to the clients.
    • Conduct conference calls with clients and/attorneys to make sure client is informed.
  • Legal Costs Organization + Tie-Out
    • Review/Approve all attorney invoices.
    • Create check requests for money received that needs to be sent to an attorney.
    • Verify AFM received all remaining legal costs from the forwarding attorney, and then ensuring AFM sends the remaining costs back to client

Requirements:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies
  • 3+ years experience in a legal setting
  • Collection industry experience preferred, not required
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to research and collect data
  • Strong communication skills
