This position is located in the Civil Division, within one of its four operating branches, at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, providing management, oversight, and/or quality review of courtroom operations and employee work, in compliance with applicable Court rules; Court and division policies; Court business processes; and division standard operating procedures.
Duties
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
As the Courtroom Operations Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for performing the following major duties:
- Assisting the Branch Chief with managing the day-to-day courtroom operations to meet the tactical objectives and key performance indicator targets derived from the division’s Management Action Plan (MAP) and the Court’s Strategic Plan
- Reviewing and monitoring documents and case management and recording systems data for accuracy and compliance with business processes. Issuing correction notifications, when appropriate
- Monitoring and reconciling caseload error reports to ensure accurate case data
- Making recommendations for new initiatives and improvements to the Branch Chief
- Implementing best practices, business processes, and standard operating procedures for efficient courtroom operations and effective customer service
- Building, leading, and participating in project teams to accomplish division or branch objectives, new initiatives, programmatic enhancements, and/or operational improvements
- Submitting reports to the Branch Chief, including, but not limited to those pertaining to: caseload errors; management action plan objectives; key performance indicators; and personnel actions, all of which may be statistical, narrative, or advisory in nature
- Managing branch staffing and courtroom logistics to ensure effective operations and a safe work environment
- Providing direct supervision of direct reports; training, planning, delegating, and evaluating work to be accomplished by subordinates; and, setting and adjusting work priorities
- Monitoring and certifying time and attendance in the electronic time and attendance management system. Determining staffing levels and work schedules and approving or disapproving leave requests according to operational need
- Assessing Courtroom Clerk training needs; developing and maintaining training materials and procedural manuals; and identifying and recommending, or implementing training and development opportunities for Courtroom Clerks
- Providing administrative, procedural, and technical assistance to employees, judicial staff, and the public

Minimum qualifications:
A high school diploma; seven (7) years of clerical, administrative, or customer service experience; and, one (1) year of supervisory experience, or successful completion of the Courts’ Management Training Program. Education may be substituted for years of experience.
Education Substitution:
An associate's degree and at least five (5) years of clerical or administrative experience and one (1) year as a supervisor or successful completion of the Court's management training program.
A bachelor's degree and at least three (3) years of clerical or administrative experience and one (1) year as a supervisor or successful completion of the Court's management training program.
The preferred candidate has a bachelor’s degree in legal studies, business administration, public administration, human resources administration, or a closely related field; two (2) or more years of supervisory experience; and two (2) or more years of experience in courtroom operations.
Position Change During Probationary Period. A probationary employee who is transferred, demoted, reassigned, or promoted to another position before completing probation shall be required to complete the remaining portion of the probationary period in the new position. A probationary employee is eligible for promotion or lateral transfer to posted position vacancies within their current division at any time. However, a probationary employee must serve six (6) months in their current position before they are eligible for promotion or lateral transfer to posted position vacancies outside of their current division.

DC Courts' appropriation comes directly from Congress. All DC Courts non-judicial employees receive federal benefits for the following programs: Life Insurance, Retirement Benefits, Health Insurance and Workers Compensation.

The DC Courts leave policy is as follows:
Annual Leave: New full-time employees earn four (4) hours of annual leave biweekly. After three years of service this increases to six (6)hours biweekly, and at 15 years it increases to eight(8)hours biweekly. Most military, federal and District of Columbia government service counts toward the time required to go into the next higher annual leave category. Employees can carry over no more than 240 hours of annual leave into the next leave year.
Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four(4)hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.
In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as a commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $150 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year.
