Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector, Law Enforcement Programs Division, Asset Forfeiture Branch in San Ysidro, CA.
Duties This is a developmental administrative position with the Asset Forfeiture Program where you will use your knowledge and expertise to assist with the initiation and/or adjudication of civil liabilities. This position starts at a salary of $69,809.00 (GS-9, Step 1) to $90,749.00 (GS-9, Step 10) with promotion potential to $131,610.00 (GS-12, Step 10). As a Paralegal Specialist, you will work closely with higher graded specialists under continuing guidance and instruction to develop your knowledge towards more complex assignments and progressively more responsibility. Typical work assignments will include: Reviewing and processing cases within the Asset Forfeiture Officer's authority through to solution. Assuring that all due process considerations are met and the elements necessary to establish violation are present and supported to appropriate documentation. Reviewing and evaluating investigative reports and case records. Requesting additional information from appropriate officers and special agents within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Developing and evaluating all evidence, facts, and circumstances relating to cases and makes determination and recommendations as appropriate within the requirements of the mitigation guidelines, laws, and regulations.
