Title/Role: Associate, Legal Support (Paralegal), Legal and Compliance
Reports to: Assistant General Counsel
Location: National (EST Time Zone Preferred)
Role: Full-time (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday)
Salary range: $68,000 - $70,000
Overview:
The Per Scholas Legal and Compliance Team is seeking a skilled and dependable Legal Support Associate (paralegal) to provide confidential legal and administrative support to the Assistant General Counsel. This role includes supporting vital legal operations and assisting with legal research, contract review, and document preparation. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, the Legal Support Associate will perform comprehensive, confidential, and time-sensitive duties and assignments critical to the department’s function. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team in a fast-paced collegial environment.
Who we are looking for:
If you are a detail-oriented professional with 3+ years of experience providing legal research, contract review, and administrative support to an in-house legal team, then we want to hear from you! Under the supervision of our Assistant General Counsel, you’ll conduct research across a wide range of legal areas, including both state and federal law, prepare research memos and support contract reviews and execution. You will also assist with preparing reports, corporate filings, legal correspondence and other key internal and external documents while managing deadlines and maintaining filing systems. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks are essential. The following are the core responsibilities for this role:
- Conduct research for a variety of legal and regulatory matters using LexisNexis and other legal databases and public sources, and prepare research memos and spreadsheets.
- Support the collection of required information (e.g., due diligence reports, corporate filings, charitable and other business registrations) and prepare documentation, filings and reports. Track deadline reports and ensure all required filings are completed timely.
- Assist in the review of contracts and various documents as assigned.
- Review, track, and monitor legislation that impacts the organization’s processes
- Log legal and compliance matters and support legal and compliance project tracking
- Support the process of ensuring the execution of contracts and electronically filing and maintaining all final, executed documents.
- Support updates to legal and compliance-related policies, procedures, and training.
- Provide litigation support as needed.
- Provide administrative support to the Assistant General Counsel, including preparing reports, handling correspondence, organizing legal documents, performing data entry, coordinating meetings, and other related tasks as assigned.
- Collaborate with staff/vendors who will need to provide documents or complete forms when required, and gather and compile all documents and forms in the format required for submissions.
- Work with confidential and sensitive information while exercising excellent judgment and discretion.
- Attend meetings and take minutes, as needed.
- Other responsibilities, as assigned.
Required Skills:
- 3+ years of experience supporting an in-house transactional legal department, with a wide array of legal areas applicable to non-profit organizations such as regulatory compliance, privacy, labor and employment, business transactions and corporate governance.
- A Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-accredited paralegal training program, with specific experience in legal research, writing, and contract review.
- Proficiency in legal research of broad-scope matters using LexisNexis and other legal and public databases and information repositories.
- Excellent working knowledge of Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and the MS Office Suite (Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets), with strong skills in writing, formatting, editing, and proofreading legal documents.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and support complex projects while collaborating with internal and external resources to achieve results.
- Proficiency in Salesforce (data entry, data inquiries, basic reporting).
- Capacity for self-directed learning and the ability to manage repetitive tasks efficiently.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
- Highly organized with excellent multitasking skills, able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment..
Desired Skills:
- Bachelors Degree
- Prior post-secondary education, workforce development, or non-profit industry experience
- Experience supporting in-house legal department in highly regulated industries
