As Contentful’s Legal Counsel - AI Governance & IP you will advise and partner with our Engineering, Product, Security, IT, Marketing, People, and other teams throughout the organization to develop and implement Contentful’s AI governance program and manage risk and compliance with existing and emerging AI related laws and regulations. On the IP side, you will help manage Contentful’s patent and trademark portfolios, negotiate IP terms in technology related transactions and provide advice and support on a variety of IP issues. Success in this role requires a collaborative and supportive mentality, a willingness to embrace tactical details without missing strategic priorities, and skill in distilling complex legal concepts into simple, actionable business advice. This role will report directly to the VP & Deputy General Counsel PPIC (Product, Privacy, IP, Compliance).
What to expect?- Develop a comprehensive AI governance program, work with cross-functional stakeholders on implementation, and take the lead on initiatives such as drafting policies, guidelines, risk assessments and training materials.
- Become the point-person within Legal for internal and customer-facing queries and communications on AI related issues.
- Support the Product, Engineering, Security and other teams to establish, implement and maintain an AI risk management framework to meet industry standards.
- Provide analysis and guidance on AI and IP issues to ensure compliance with existing and emerging laws and industry best practices, and implementation into business processes as needed.
- Draft, review and negotiate AI and IP related contract terms.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy and manage Contentful’s global IP portfolio.
- Oversee invention sessions and invention disclosure selection.
- Respond to various IP inquiries from, and provide legal advice to, the business teams on IP issues ranging from open source software licenses to trademark and domain rights
- Consult with and direct outside counsel on intellectual property matters.
- 10+ years of legal practice with direct subject matter expertise in AI and intellectual property.
- AI governance certification and/or completion of AI governance and compliance course(s).
- Proven track record of providing legal advice and guidance on complex issues related to AI and IP.
- Substantial experience drafting and editing policies, procedures and related governance documents.
- Demonstrable project management skills.
- Highly responsive, solution-oriented approach in working with stakeholders.
- Strong writing skills with an attention to detail and the ability to express complicated matters in easily understandable and effective ways.
- Excellent judgment, analytical rigor, and business pragmatism.
- Self-directed and takes ownership of tasks with the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

Colorado Salary Statement: The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for the role. Colorado Salary Range: $222,000 - $249,000
