Description

The purpose of this position is to schedule marriage license appointments and process applications.  This position also provides paralegal services such as legal research, draft legal documents and conduct data analysis. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of Duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Schedules marriage license appointments and process applications.
  • Performs record management duties which include processing Court paperwork; ensuring cases are properly processed in accordance with law; maintaining and filing citations and warrants; and supervising the Court’s docket.
  • Collects and processes fines, state fees, and other related citation fees; performs account balancing; issues receipts for payments; prepares reconciliation reports for the courts; and determines when warrants are necessary.
  • Provides customer service to the general public and other agencies by responding to inquiries and requests for information, explaining policies and procedures, communicating fines, and/or providing other applicable information.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Notary Public.

Supplemental Information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
