DutiesIf selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing substantive budgetary guidance and financial analysis support to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of California. Typical work assignments will include:
- Provide budget and financial management for the District.
- Provide budget recommendations to management based on sound analysis and expert knowledge of budgetary cycles, policies, and best practices.
- Preparing budget justifications for recommended allocation levels, and monitoring progress regularly throughout the year to determine any potential need for reallocation.
- Analyzing execution data to identify potential errors, calculate variables affecting district costs, and project future budgetary needs.
- Managing the certification of obligations for the district ensuring all financial records, i.e. commitments, obligations, expenditures, delivery status and available balances, are accurate and supported with proper fund control documentation.
- Regularly monitoring payroll accounting accuracy to catch improper account charges between direct and reimbursable budgets, and ensuring full use of reimbursable funds..
- Working with EOUSA to ensure accuracy of budget requests and adjustments.
- Working closely and keeping regular communications open with Human Resources to ensure hiring estimates are kept current and reasonable.
- Working closely and keeping regular communications open with Acquisitions Staff to prevent accounting errors, monitor contract funds, and ensure sufficient funding is available for all procurement actions.
- Serving as the designated travel system expert and primary resource for travel processing and troubleshooting, as well as travel card management.
- Providing technical advice and assistance to resolve problems referred by staff and management.
- Serving as the primary resource in responding to audit questions and findings, and ensuring financial practices and accounts are audit compliant.
- Planning work to be accomplished and setting priorities in budget and financial management.
- Assigning work to others based on staff capabilities difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities.
- Reviewing work completed by others to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

- You must be a United States Citizen or National.

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet one full year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing the following types of duties: assisting in the formulation and execution of a budgets; analyzing and resolving complex budget problems; often involving other departments; preparing preliminary budget estimates and reviewing justifications; drafting budgetary procedures and internal policy guidance; managing financial processes, and providing technical advice, consultation, and assistance, to management on a range of budget program issues.
