Chemours is seeking a Senior Litigation Counsel to join our growing Legal team. This HYBRID position will be available in Wilmington, DE and report directly to the Deputy General Counsel.
The Senior Litigation Counsel is responsible for managing and overseeing specific litigation and dispute resolution matters and dockets affecting the company. This role serves as a strategic advisor to business units, coordinates with outside counsel, and provides proactive risk mitigation guidance. The Senior Litigation Counsel will handle complex cases, regulatory investigations, and internal inquiries, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and values.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead and manage all aspects of pending and threatened litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
Advise executive leadership and business units on litigation risks, strategies, and exposure.
Develop and implement litigation strategies, including settlement of matters when appropriate, with input and approval from legal management and business leaders.
Select and engage outside counsel.
Review pleadings and discovery responses, supervise outside counsel, ensure effective case management, and appropriately manage legal expenses.
Represent the company in settlement negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings as needed.
Provide legal advice, guidance, and training to internal corporate clients on legal and risk issues related to both long-term strategy and day-to-day business operations.
Oversee the internal discovery process.
Track significant legal developments, emerging risks, and relevant regulatory changes.
Prepare litigation reports and updates for management and the board of directors.
The following is required for this role:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one state.
Litigation experience involving toxic tort matters or working within a chemical, industrial, or heavy manufacturing business.
Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external team members.
Demonstrated ability to balance legal risks with business objectives.
Experience managing outside counsel and controlling legal expenses.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
The following is preferred for this role:
Minimum of 8 years’ litigation experience at a large law firm and/or the law department of a major corporation.
