
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications)\:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- 5+ years of in-house, government, and/or large law firm experience in understanding, implementing and/or promoting the elements of an effective compliance program
- Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with business partners
- Effective business writing and presentation skills combined with strong interpersonal communication abilities that enable individuals to effectively navigate a wide range of technical and practical aspects of business required
- Excellent leadership skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give practical business/legal/compliance advice
- Ability to provide leadership in the development and maintenance of effective ethics and compliance policies and initiatives
- Proficient in identifying, developing, and implementing specific programs, processes, and procedures in significant and substantive areas such as anti-bribery/anti-corruption and political law
- Outstanding analytical skills and the capability to provide compelling, diplomatic, practical, creative, and legally compliant advice in a timely manner
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, particularly regarding sophisticated issues
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and robust planning/organization abilities
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in engaging with various levels of corporate management, including Senior Executive Leadership
- Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities and effectively manage fast-paced situations to meet short timelines
- This role is based in Chicago and follows a hybrid scheduling model that supports a blend of in-office and remote work
- Domestic and international travel required

Key Responsibilities\:United's Legal Department is a recipient of Corporate Counsel's Best Legal Department Award! The department is currently seeking an accomplished attorney with extensive experience in global legal and regulatory anti-bribery/anti-corruption advice and compliance. This role will also involve providing advice and counsel on political law matters, such as lobbying and government sponsorships. The successful candidate will work within the Global Compliance and Ethics function and report to the Deputy General Counsel – Chief Compliance Officer and work collaboratively with other members of the Compliance and Ethics, Legal and Government Affairs teams.
- Broad responsibility and accountability for developing and promoting United’s global bribery/corruption program, policies, and procedures. To include:
- Development and implementation of appropriate risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies for United’s bribery/corruption program; Effective monitoring of compliance across the organization, with particular focus on bribery/corruption, in order to provide insightful assessments of program efficiency and organizational risks
- Regular review, drafting, and implementation of compliance related policies, procedures, and internal mentorship, ensuring alignment with updated local laws and addressing priorities within the Ethics & Compliance Program
- Keeping up to date with modifications in worldwide regulations affecting compliance-related aspects of the business and providing mentorship to team members as needed, which includes creating and delivering relevant training and procedures
- Crafting and delivering in-person anti-bribery training customized for specific functions and areas of risk. Participate in or support compliance-related investigations, as required
- Deliver prompt, efficient, knowledgeable, and forward-thinking legal guidance, and support to United’s Government Affairs teams on all aspects of political law, such as lobbying, campaign and non-profit donations, pay-to-play laws, and gifts and entertainment
