 About the Role

The New York Times Company has an opening for an experienced attorney who will oversee Cybersecurity, Data Privacy and Protection and Consumer compliance.  You will work with NY TImes Senior executives and operational Leaders throughout the company including Marketing and Advertising Operations, Subscription growth, Product, Engineering, Technology, Data governance, Information Security, Commercial contracts and others.

Responsibilities:

  • You will Independently advise clients in the marketing, advertising, technology, data, product, cybersecurity and human resources departments as a subject matter expert on the development, collection, use, transfer, governance and protection of sensitive data, including personal information, both from a domestic and an international perspective.

  • You will manage the preparation of data protection impact assessments and records of processing by data privacy managers.

  • In coordination with data, technology and other responsibilities, drafting and implementing privacy, cybersecurity and consumer compliance processes, policies and procedures; managing privacy policies, terms of use and self-regulatory notices across digital properties;Assisting with the development of legal and compliance policies and procedures in coordination with other members of the legal department.

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating the data provisions of a wide variety of commercial agreements. 

  • Advise internal clients on consumer-facing laws, regulations and best practices

  • In this role you will advise on legal developments related to subscriptions, including renewals, cancelations and price increases.

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

  • You will report to the Vice President Chief Data Privacy Officer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree plus J.D. degree from accredited college or university. 

  • Active member of New York State bar.

  •  10+ years’ relevant work experience practicing including experience with specific experience in Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Solutions related to Advertising technology.

  • 4+ years experience leading teams.

  • Experience analyzing complex Regulatory materials and communicating their implications in a manner consistent with the NY Times mission and culture.

The annual base pay range for this role is between $210,000.00 and $250,000.00.
