Manages and oversees the delivery of legal services to the organization by the functional team. Connects and collaborates across Advocate Health, recognizing the critical importance of integration and collaboration across Advocate Health to achieve high performance.

Accountable for assisting in the planning, designing, and developing the legal function and the people within the functional team. Identifies, assesses, and builds relationships with key stakeholders.
Mobilizes and directs supporting capabilities in public affairs, communications, government affairs and others to achieve desired outcomes.
Assesses and assists in the management of outside legal relationships related to the assigned function, assesses the talents and roles of outside legal counsel, retains outside counsel as required, and oversees the performance of outside counsel.
Invests time coaching and mentoring high potentials for success.
Assists in the development and oversight of the legal budget, including internal staff and outside counsel, related to the assigned function.
Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
Knowledgeable about the Advocate Health business model, the consumer, and competitive, political and social environments in which the organization operates.
Performs human resources responsibilities for staff including interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
Establishes trust and creates a culture of psychological safety to enable candid debate
Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Attorney licensed to practice law issued by the state in which the team member practices.
Education Required:
Doctorate Degree in Law from a top ABA accredited school of law.
Experience Required:
Typically requires 10 years of progressive experience and documentable accomplishments in healthcare legal services which includes providing strategic oversight of the legal function within a major law firm or as in-house legal counsel in a complex health system environment. Prior healthcare legal experience in a law firm.
