The Legal Counsel V will support businesses within the HP Solutions global business unit.
Clients and assignments will vary, but could include both providing general business legal advice to teams within HP Solutions as well as create cross-functional deliverables and projects. It may include supporting leasing and financing aspects of HP’s managed solutions business. This position is an individual contributor role and will report to the VP, HP Solutions AGC.
Ideally we are looking for an attorney with mid-level experience in software and services.
Legal support may include:
- Providing legal advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to leasing and financing within HP’s managed solutions;
- Reviewing and negotiation of non-standard legal documentation with customers, vendors, and finance partners;
- Advising, as needed on leasing and finance matters to support HP’s managed solutions business;
- Continuous updating of legal documentation including templates;
- Creation of client guidance documentation, including website materials;
- Coordination with and supervision of external attorneys, as needed; undertaking legal research and analysis as required or assigned;
- Remaining informed and knowledgeable of the relevant legislation and regulations in the United States, European Union, and other jurisdictions as needed;
- Help resolve disputes with customers, partners, and suppliers; and
- Drafting and advising on contract management and other policies
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Responsibilities:
- Acts as legal advisor to HP Solutions business teams and acts as a trusted advisor to the business on legal issues and legal impact of business issues;
- Provides legal expertise in collaboration with greater HP legal team;
- Understands key stakeholder needs and develops solutions for maximum impact;
- Communicates effectively across functions, siloes and multiple management levels, regardless of colleagues’ experience with leasing;
- Leads complex multidimensional projects or transactions by identifying and resolving highly complex legal, regulatory, and business issues requiring highly specialized knowledge and judgment;
- Plans and provide training to internal clients on designated legal topics;
- Leads development of new ideas and methods to effectively address recurring legal issues or matters facing multiple client organizations;
- Acts as a functional expert within area of expertise, assisting in developing strategy and setting functional policy and direction; and
- Plans and facilitates training and mentoring sessions with other team members and clients to share expertise on a variety of subtopics related to a specific legal concentration.
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited and nationally recognized law school
- Active bar membership and license preferably in Texas or Washington
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience (from a combination of law firm, government, and/or in-house experience)
- Experience in equipment leasing and financing is an asset

The pay range for this role is $165,000 to $254,100 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
