JOB SUMMARY
The Attorney II is responsible for assisting and performing moderately complex legal work. This will include, but not be limited to, conducting legal research, drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, agreements and other legal documents and representing the County in litigation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
For Prosecuting Attorney
- Represents the State in felony and misdemeanor dockets, Director of Revenue cases, jury trials, motion and bond hearings, preliminary hearings and guilty pleas.
- Reviews cases to determine trial strategies, subpoena witnesses, and to request additional investigations.
- Negotiates with defense attorneys.
- Interviews witnesses and victims. Meets with witnesses, victims and law enforcement regarding court appearances.
- Discusses plea negotiations with victims.
- Visits crime scenes and examines evidence.
- Handles depositions.
- Researches various points of law, prepares motions, appeals, responses and arguments.
- Prepares legal briefs and memos.
- Prepares and files criminal charges.
- Prepares charged cases for hearings/ bench trials and jury trials.
- Prepares and conducts court dockets.
- Reviews warrant applications for charges. Assists with the preparation and review of search warrants for law enforcement.
- Appears and handles sentencings
- Advises and supervises subordinates.
- Participates in on-call rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
