Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Paralegal with expertise in post-judgment collections to support our legal team in Florida. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Florida debt collection laws, judgment enforcement procedures, and civil litigation processes. This role requires strong legal research skills, proficiency in preparing legal documents, and the ability to manage multiple collection cases efficiently.
Position Responsibilities:
· Assist attorneys in executing post-judgment enforcement strategies, including bank garnishments, wage garnishments, levies, liens, debtor examinations, and asset discovery.
· Draft and file legal documents such as writs of garnishment, motions for contempt, judgment liens, and other legal documents.
· Conduct legal research on debtor assets, property records, and Florida-specific judgment enforcement laws.
· Prepare and submit garnishment actions and coordinate with Florida sheriffs' offices and courts for enforcement.
· Communicate with debtors, opposing counsel, courts, and law enforcement agencies regarding collections.
· Maintain case files, deadlines, and compliance with Florida debt collection laws (including the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act (FCCPA) and federal FDCPA guidelines).
· Assist with client reporting and provide updates on collection efforts.
Required Qualifications:
· 3+ years of experience as a paralegal, with a strong focus on post-judgment collections.
· In-depth knowledge of Florida civil procedure, judgment enforcement laws, and collection processes.
· Experience handling wage and bank garnishments, execution of liens, and debtor interrogatories.
· Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
· Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Florida Registered Paralegal (FRP) or paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program .
· Experience in a litigation or collections law firm.
· Familiarity with both commercial and consumer debt collection practices.
· Knowledge of Florida’s homestead exemption laws and enforcement limitations.
· Ability to work independently and proactively in executing collection efforts.
