This position is responsible for providing legal administrative assistance to Borough Attorneys.

This is a non-bargaining unit confidential position.

- Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Three years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position.
Relevant experience to include but not limited to Legal experience with familiarity with local and federal court processes. Experience with supporting staff, strong communication, problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700, within ninety (90) days of hire.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- Duties/Responsibilities
- Familiarity with legal terminology and documentation.
- Familiarity with court processes and how to work cases.
- Ability to research and ensure accuracy in legal documents (ensuring citations, citation format, and quoted text are correct) using an assortment of legal resources to include Alaska Rules of Court, Blue Book, Gregg’s Reference Manual, Black’s Law Dictionary, LexisNexis, and other resources.
- Must be able to refrain from discussing confidential information outside of the legal department.
- Attend ongoing legal education training.
- Ability to type quickly and accurately.
- Attention to detail.
- Draft, proof, edit, finalize, serve, file documents with court.
- Scan, calendar, and distribute correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, reports, and other legal documents.
- Organize and review discovery documents.
- Compile and number exhibits, excerpt of record, and other attachments.
- Pre-review document for redactions – prepare redaction logs.
- Prepare informational spreadsheets.
- Coordinate with accounting department regarding filing property tax matters, foreclosures, demand notices, and process/serve Permanent Fund Dividend execution packages.
- Interact and coordinate with court personnel and law firms.
- Interact and work with other departments within the Borough, as well as Assemblymembers and Management.
- May be requested to assist in maintaining the office supply inventory, process invoices, and reimbursement requests.
- Answering the telephone, take messages, schedule appointments, greet visitors, and provide information and assistance to visitors/callers.
