Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Justice is seeking to add a highly motivated, tech savvy, and hardworking Legal Assistant/Executive Assistant to the dynamic team of the Office of the Solicitor General. The Office of the Solicitor General represents the State in high-profile and high-stakes cases in appellate courts across the country and provides legal advice to the Attorney General. The successful Legal Assistant/Executive Assistant candidate will be a self-motivated problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to provide administrative and project support to attorneys in the Office of the Solicitor General. The Legal Assistant/Executive Assistant must be proficient in Adobe and Microsoft Office applications (including Acrobat, Word, Excel, and Outlook), must display great attention to detail, must be extremely organized, and must have excellent communication skills, including a command of English grammar and spelling.

The Legal Assistant will perform various substantive and clerical duties including: (1) opening and maintaining electronic legal files, (2) with attorney supervision, preparing and electronically filing legal documents, (3) proofreading legal documents, (4) creating and assembling case-related materials, (4) helping attorneys get admitted to practice in courts around the country, (5) composing a variety of correspondence, (6) managing attorneys’ calendars, (7) communicating with others inside and outside the Department of Justice, (8) ensuring the effective delivery of outgoing mail, (9) managing attorneys’ continuing legal education requirements by ensuring that CLE recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met, (10) making out-of-town travel arrangements, and (11) performing other duties and completing other special projects as requested.
