
Our client is a well-established national law firm known for providing exceptional client service. They are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their team and add value.
The Litigation Paralegal performs a range of substantive case, matter, or entity-related duties, under the supervision of attorneys. Additional duties include preparing drafts of legal and other documents and correspondence for attorney review; compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information; coordinating efforts between attorneys, clients, outside legal counsel, opposing legal counsel, other parties, and outside vendors.
Responsibilities:
The Litigation Paralegal will have the following responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments.
- Draft pleadings, motions and appellate documents.
- Liaise with clerks of various courts and government agencies regarding procedures.
- Review and analyze local filing procedures and outline for upcoming briefs to team members.
- Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organizing case files, manage logistics, etc.).
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes.
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
- Aid attorneys with large-scale document productions and other discovery requests.
- Assist with trial preparation including exhibit preparation and coordinating schedules of all involved parties.
- Provide assistance with case settlements.
- Prepare document productions in response to requests.
- Review medical records and index the same.
- Redact documents in preparation for production.
- Assist with deposition preparation, including exhibit preparation and booking/scheduling of court reporters and all necessary parties.
- Extensive knowledge of all state and federal court filing sites for electronic filing and pulling of case documents.
- Bates label document productions.
- Index and review of incoming client documents.
- Organize and prepare an ongoing list of assignments on active cases and engage in team meetings to discuss strategy and upcoming deadlines.
- Prepare and calendar all deposition deadlines, including errata forms and confidentiality designations.
- Correspondence with opposing counsel, mediators, Judge’s Chambers, etc. (i.e. sending letters, service copies, proposed orders, etc. on our behalf).
- Finalize (which includes converting documents and giving a final proofread) and file documents with courts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The Litigation Paralegal will meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
- Paralegal Certificate from an accredited ABA program.
- Must possess three to five years’ experience as a paralegal in a litigation practice.
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and practices of legal research.
- Experience working with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Lexis and Westlaw, and other computer programs as needed.
- Pacer experience is required.
- Relativity experience is a plus.
- Should have extensive writing skills to prepare legal documents.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and must be able to convey ideas in a manner convincing to others.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks assigned to them by the attorneys and prioritize them effectively.
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
