Position Summary
The Authorizations Coordinator will be responsible for managing prior authorizations for pain management procedures and advanced imaging, as well as coordinating the scheduling of Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), depositions, and legal meetings. This role requires effective communication with insurance companies, physicians, patients, and legal teams to ensure timely approvals and the proper processing of authorizations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain prior authorization from patients’ insurance companies for advanced imaging (MRIs, CTs, Bone Scans, Ultrasounds, EMGs, etc.) and pain management procedures.
- Maintain contact with insurance companies to verify case status and keeps patient and rendering facilities updated when required.
- Notify physicians, patients, and rendering facility when services are not approved, and understand the process and protocols for appealing precertification decisions
- Keep documentation of phone calls including contact names, phone numbers, and reference numbers. Take messages and transfer calls to appropriate departments when necessary.
- Schedule legal meetings, depositions, and trial appearances for providers.
- Understand subpoenas and qualified protective orders.
- Coordinate the scheduling of Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs) and Expert Reviews.
- Prepare and send invoices with accuracy.
- Reconciles payments and ensures that all balances due are accounted for and properly posted.
- Work well with and responds promptly to requests by Physicians, Mid-levels, and other office staff.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Word Processing software.
- Must be able to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, and type.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision
