We’re looking for an independent, proactive legal generalist to join our in-house legal team. As the right hand to our General Counsel, this individual will play a critical role in managing contracts, privacy and data issues, IP strategy, legal operations, and other strategic initiatives. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role ideal for someone hungry to learn, eager to build, and comfortable with ambiguity.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, executive presence, and the ability to thoughtfully balance legal risk against business objectives in the dynamic landscape of a small but growing public company in the semiconductor and AI space.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a pragmatic, accessible, and trusted legal partner to executive and cross-functional leadership teams across Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and Engineering.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including technology transactions, customer and supplier agreements, inbound and outbound licensing, and non-disclosure agreements, among others.
- Oversee and optimize the contracts lifecycle management system.
- Lead on privacy, data protection, open-source compliance, and regulatory matters—supporting Blaize’s commitment to responsible AI use and data handling.
- Partner with the technical and product teams and external counsel to guide and evolve the company’s intellectual property strategy (patents, trademarks, trade secrets).
- Drive legal operations and compliance efforts, including template management, contract process improvements, and legal risk mitigation programs.
- Manage and optimize engagement with outside counsel to ensure effective and efficient legal support.
- Collaborate closely with the General Counsel on strategic projects and emerging business priorities.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (California preferred).
- 5–10 years of legal experience, either in-house or at a law firm with relevant practice areas.
- Background in high-growth public tech companies (semiconductor, software, AI) is a strong plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and execute in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfortable making risk-optimized decisions with limited information.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset—proactive, resourceful, and solution-oriented.
- Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and handle a wide range of legal topics with intellectual curiosity.
- Startup mentality: adaptable, scrappy, and thrives in lean, dynamic teams.
- Strategic thinker with sound judgment, balanced risk-taking, and business-first orientation.
- Eager to grow into a leadership role and serve as a key advisor to the business.
- Team player with a collaborative, humble approach.
- Strong sense of humor.
- Compensation Range $220,000 - $250,000
- Excellent benefits package (including medical, dental, vision, 401k, etc.)
