- JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Chief Investigator, responsible for providing professional investigative assistance to the District Attorney and Assistant District Attorneys of Williamson County.
- EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Trial Investigator
- Serves as security to the office, prosecution team, and trial witnesses as appropriate, including in the office or during trial in court and outside the courthouse as required
- Reviews cases provided by prosecution team for trial work up
- Receives and handles requests from prosecution team
- Reviews cases for additional investigation needs (i.e., evidence or witnesses)
- Reviews and ensures completeness of case file (i.e., supplements, attachments, video, medical, etc.)
- Serves as liaison with investigating agency and officers
- Secures or follows up on prior judgments, pen packs, etc.
- Obtains police reports and locates and/or interviews victims and witnesses as needed
- Assists in the service, or coordination of service, of grand jury subpoenas and trial subpoenas
- Locates and serves trial related subpoenas and coordinates witness meetings and interviews as needed
- Coordinates witness travel and completion of witness reimbursement paperwork
- Assists in preparation of trial presentation material (i.e., photo printing, audio/video editing, copying, maps, posters, etc.)
- Receives witness order from prosecution team and creates list with contact information for each team member
- Runs CCH for jurors and all witnesses
- Collects and preserves evidence used in the prosecution of case; returns evidence items not presented in trial to the agency
- Notifies involved parties of outcome of case as needed
- Runs quarterly unapprehended suspect list for respective court
- Selects cases for review of file for change in extradition status or recall of warrant/dismissal of case
- Coordinates efforts through searches and agencies to apprehend individuals where possible; documents all efforts and database returns in case file
- Performs special projects as assigned by the District Attorney or designee
Intake Investigator
- Serves as security to the office, office staff, and trial witnesses as appropriate, including in the office or during trial in court and outside the courthouse as required
- Reviews daily intake cases and orders the appropriate evidence from law enforcement filing agencies
- Gathers additional information on intake cases as dictated by investigator request forms from prosecutors
- Assists prosecutors in interviewing victims/witnesses on intake cases
- Assists intake administrative assistants in obtaining reports/judgments in emergency situations
- Prepares and serves arrest warrants for enhancement cases and grand jury subpoenas on felony cases within the office
- Serves as liaison between law enforcement agency officers and the District Attorney's office, answering officer's questions and getting them in contact with appropriate prosecuting attorney
- Prepare grand jury subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants for requesting officers
- Answers the telephone and receives walk-in complaints from citizens and guides them to the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation
- Prepares paperwork for extraditions (going back to requesting state) when necessary
- Performs special projects as assigned by the District Attorney or designee

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, repetitive motions, and standing
- Position involves occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objects
- Occasional need to restrain a defendant who is taken into custody
- Random stressful and confrontational situations with the public and defendants
- Occasionally responds to late night callouts requiring performance with few hours or no sleep
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment
- Frequent contact with the public, attorneys, judges, and prosecutors
- Contact with persons accused of felony offenses
- Regular travel between work sites as required
IRREGULAR HOURS
- Irregular hours as needed to accomplish the mission of the office and at the discretion and approval of the District Attorney or designee

- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ten (10) years of experience as a Texas Peace Officer
- Two (2) years of experience as an Investigator
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and specific job-related technology
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- Advanced Peace Officer (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) certification
- Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
- Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement, Public Administration, or similar field
- Five (5) years of experience as an Investigator
- Two (2) years of experience as District Attorney Investigator
