Job Description

 

Role Summary: 

As our Closing Legal Assistant, you use your strong persuasive writing to negotiate reductions with third party lien holders and medical offices. You will be responsible for getting our clients the best possible reduction on their expenses from their accident. You will also be a subject matter expert for liens, ERISA health insurance plans, Medicare, AHCCCS, and other health plans. 

Role Contributions and Responsibilities: 

  • Review file for all information related to liens and medical expenses.
  • Review health insurance plans and Plan Documents for subrogation rights and research their rights to our client’s settlement. 
  • Negotiate the removal of unrelated claims from health insurance liens.
  • Review liens and medical bills for validity.
  • Compose reduction request letters using the pertinent information from the client’s case, as well as current statutes to obtain a reduction on the client’s medical expenses and liens. 
  • Notify government agencies of the settlement received and open claims on their site when needed.
  • Update our internal system with notes, amounts, and status of any reductions.
  • Maintain consistent communication with assigned paralegals and attorneys.
  • Follow up with providers until a final negotiation is reached. 
  • Advocate for clients’ best possible outcome.

 Education:

 BS in communications, English, criminal justice, or related field preferred

Experience:

Legal Assistant, or negotiations experience preferred. 

 Certificates:

Certificates required or preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • Strong Attention to detail skills.
  • High level of proficiency in negotiation, both written and verbal
  • Expertise in legal research.
  • Expert-level persuasive writing skills. 
  • Proven ability to multi-task.
  • Proven ability to prioritize conflicting tasks and deadlines.
  • Capacity to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • High levels of adaptability
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Highly Proficient in time management
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidential information.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft word and converting documents to pdf documents.
  • Comfortable with performing basic math (addition, subtraction)
  • Type 40 WPM or higher
  • Professional phone etiquette
  • Prior experience with persuasive or legal writing highly preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires long periods of sitting while completing computer activities.
  • Ability to travel to and from office for company events and meetings. 
  • Ability to lift boxes and/or pull mailcart weighing 25 – 40 pounds.
  • Fully Remote position after initial training period.
  • All computer equipment provided, must have a private area to work set up within your home.
