The Associate General Counsel specializing in benefits law and regulatory matters provides legal and other consultative services in a variety of matters affecting the company's businesses and operations. In this role, you will be a key player in ensuring that we are helping lead the market while keeping us in alignment with regulatory requirements.
What you’ll do:
- Provide legal analysis and consultative services that help the organization achieve its business objectives. Provide advice in a collaborative manner that is consistent with the company's values and applicable laws and regulations and provides for a practical balancing of legal risks with business results.
- Provide legal and regulatory guidance and counsel regarding benefits law including but not limited to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ERISA, related tax law requirements and state benefit mandates.
- Partner directly with clients and leaders.
- Maintain knowledge of client's current business activities, as well as an awareness of applicable statutory laws, regulations, and judicial developments.
- Draft and review business agreements, legal filings, and other documents.
- Facilitate coordination with other business units and departments as necessary on complex issues and effectively communicate relevant guidance to clients.
- Bring a strong command of general legal principles, business knowledge, and a growing expertise in specialization.
- Identify and evaluate the degree of legal risks associated with an issue.
- Understand the regulatory environment affecting the business and represent the company's interests externally.
- Work with other business units and departments to address external issues.
What you will bring:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- Must have passed WA State Bar Exam or be eligible to take exam.
- Five years of experience in a major law firm, corporate setting, or government agency providing legal services in a progressive legal environment to business or government clients.
- Two years of experience providing legal/regulatory services regarding benefits law including but not limited to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ERISA, related tax law requirements and state benefit mandates a plus.
- Prior healthcare or insurance background a plus.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.
National Plus Salary Range:
$146,400.00 - $263,500.00*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
