Position Overview:

As a member of the legal department, the Associate General Counsel serves as a senior legal leader responsible for providing strategic, enterprise-wide legal counsel across employment law, complex commercial matters, and corporate risk management.

The Associate General Counsel operates as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and key stakeholders, providing forward-looking legal strategy, overseeing high-risk matters, and supporting the Legal team in managing the Company’s legal function.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Company’s senior legal advisor on employment and workforce-related matters, with deep expertise in California employment law and multi-state compliance,
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance on wage and hour compliance, employee classification, meal and rest period requirements, compensation structures, and California-specific leave laws.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and executive leadership to support business growth while managing legal risk.
  • Collaborate with other Legal team members to ensure alignment of legal strategy, resource allocation, and risk management priorities.

  • Demonstrates leadership and team-working skills in support of a fast-paced, collaborative environment with many stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates confidence in risk-managed decision making and judgement.
  • Exhibits the utmost professionalism in all settings and is capable of deploying strong advocacy skills in a tactful and effective manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a progressively responsible sophisticated transactional work at a law firm or in-house.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the United States; and ability to gain access to the State Bar of Nevada (as in-house counsel).
  • Active membership and good standing in the California State Bar, strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in California employment law and multi-state workforce compliance.

  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement.
  • Ability to deal effectively with all business contacts, including government agencies, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, internal clients, and external business partners.
  • Sound judgement and superior decision-making, multi-tasing and problem-solving skills; ability to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed and able to work without direct supervision on assigned projects and tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience with complex commercial transactions.
  • Previous in-house experience or law firm experience.
  • Experience of working with other attorneys and legal staff.
  • Previous transactional experience.
