Job Description

Buckingham is a great place to work and we are always looking for the best people.    We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to work in our Akron office.    Some of the main responsibilities will include:
  • Interact with and assist clients, court personnel, law offices, governmental agencies, and the general public with a focus on client service;
  • Electronically file pleadings and motions in state and federal courts;
  • Assist with preparing business and UCC filings for submission to the Ohio Secretary of State;
  • Transcribe dictation of correspondence, memoranda, legal pleadings, contracts, and other documents;
  • Coordinate logistics for conferences and depositions, including attorney travel arrangements;
  • Enter attorney billable time through automated systems and ensure accuracy;
  • Maintain paper and electronic files per team procedures;
  • Organize paper and electronic drafts of business records, agreements, and transactional documents;
  • Maintain multiple attorney calendars and monitor all deadlines; and
  • Maintain form documents used by the firm’s attorneys.
We seek:
  • Detail-oriented person with minimum three years of experience as a litigation and or corporate assistant.
  • Proficiency in transcribing, formatting, and proofreading correspondence and legal documents.
  • Experience working with the Ohio Secretary of State’s system for electronically filing business maintenance forms and UCC documents.
  • Experience working within the rules of court relating to formatting and filing documents including pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs.
  • Experience filing documents in various courts (including navigating electronic filing systems).
  • Experience assisting attorneys with mergers, acquisitions, due diligence, agreements, and other transactional matters.
  • Experience with the preparation of contracts, transaction closing documents, and business entity formation documents.
  • Experience assisting attorneys with preparing organizational documents for business entities, and maintaining records and minute books for entities.
  • Working knowledge of litigation and business terminology, documents, and forms.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience using software for obtaining electronic signatures.
  • Experience with Work Share Compare, MacPac, Automatic Numbering and Table of Contents Software, and Visio.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
