Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking an experienced legal counsel with primary responsibility in the area of employment law to provide advice and legal support to staff and management in support of the research and development mission. In this position, you will acquire knowledge, expertise, and responsibility in other areas spanning the broad scope of SRNL operations. Position reports to the SRNL General Counsel.
SRNL is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) and multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, South Carolina, the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s most complex environmental, energy, and national security challenges.

An understanding of the DOE as well as its facilities and management and operating contractor system would be of great benefit.
Experience providing legal advice on contracts and other legal agreements, especially federal government contracting, is desirable but not required.
Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and support in areas relating to the practice of employment law, including general federal and state employment laws, EEO, compensation, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ERISA, employee litigation, and OFFCP compliance
Research and analyze complex legal issues arising in the areas of employment law, employee benefits, diversity, equity and inclusion, disability, hiring practices, discipline, performance, claims of discrimination or retaliation, employee records, wages and compensation, retirement and pension, attendance, immigration, and labor relations
Solve legal problems creatively and independently, align with business objectives while complying with established legal frameworks and contractual requirements, and adapt to a rapidly evolving market, all while inspiring trust and confidence in colleagues and external clients
Review contracts and Master Service Agreements related to employee benefits and other related procurements
Coordinate with outside counsel on a variety of legal topics
Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics
Provide risk identification and analysis, and incorporate appropriate risk mitigation strategies into legal advice and support
Provide legal guidance to senior management regarding employee filed claims and litigation
Interact with the most senior levels of management at SRNL
Provide presentations and training, internal and external, on various legal topics
Keep up to date on all governing law and the Prime Contract with the Department of Energy (DOE)
Qualifications
J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited law school is required with a minimum of eight (8) years of employment law experience,
OR
an equivalent combination of education and relevant employment law work experience.
Licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney in a state of the United States, must be an active member in good standing of the bar.
Other Qualifications
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. Clearance Required to Perform Job DOE Q
