Job Description
The Accountant position is in the Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Financial Management Office (FMO), Financial Operations Division, Payment Management Branch, Tax Reporting Section. FMO is responsible for financial management for the federal Judiciary, including accounting, reporting, and investments.
Duties The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AO) is seeking a self-motivated, experienced Accountant to join the team in the Financial Management Office (FMO), Financial Tax Reporting Section (TRS). TRS is responsible for the Judiciary's tax reporting to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and recipients, and enforcing tax regulation compliance, including international wire payments. The incumbent will serve in key areas such as data verification, compliance, and meeting IRS deadlines. This position will report directly to the Chief of the Tax Reporting Section in the FMO. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Reviewing, updating, and ensuring tax compliance for the Judiciary, including foreign and domestic vendors tax withholding, IRS forms 1099, 945, 1042, 1042-S, W-9, W-8, and CP2100 notices. Preparing and executing the information return reporting (i.e., 1099s) for the Judiciary, including transaction analysis, data verification, reconciliation, and the preparation and submission of returns, including any required corrections. Reviewing and coordinating international wire requests disbursement, and ensuring the appropriate tax withholding and reporting requirements are applied and recorded. Reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling payment and tax-related data, identifying discrepancies, and taking corrective actions. Managing relationships with different parts of the organization and external stakeholders related to tax payment management. Developing tax-related reports from accounting system of record, enterprise data warehouse, and other sources; and producing reports or data requested by senior management. Researching, analyzing, and identifying modernization opportunities; and providing actionable recommendations to management. Providing guidance on international payments, tax forms (1099, 1042S, etc.), notices, withholdings to courts and AO program offices; and responding to questions and inquiries received by the Help Desk. Supporting and executing TRS' functions and mission. Salary- $84,601 - $160,920/year
