State of California See More Job Openings by This EmployerSpecial Litigation Advisors provide the Chief Counsel for Special Litigation (CCSL) with expert legal counsel on Department-wide legal matters addressing federal accountability. They assist and advise the CCSL in the development and implementation of Department policies and/or operational practices to facilitate the expedient, thoughtful, and thorough review of federal accountability actions. Special Litigation Advisors manage communication about federal accountability actions with the legal divisions, special assistants, and directorate, as well as external interests including the Governor’s Office, Legislature, state agencies, and private advocacy groups. They exercise a high degree of independence while operating under the overall direction of the CCSL.
In addition to the legal duties listed above, will direct, monitor, and evaluate the work of a Deputy Attorney General.

Salary- $12,818 - $17,211/month

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Strong leadership abilities to engender cross-departmental collaboration with multiple divisions and interests. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to present advice in a professional manner and experience making both formal and contemporaneous presentations to a variety of stakeholders. Ability to broadly direct department activities and engagement while maintaining effective internal working relationships. Writes clearly to communicate legal and strategic analysis. Can review and evaluate work product to ensure consistency with multiple interests. Broad experience with federal litigation in various postures, and exposure to constitutional limitations of federal authority, rule of law, separation of powers, federal remedies, and the Administrative Procedures Act. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively balance multiple priorities and track many quickly developing matters in different procedural postures and subject matters. Able to work well under time pressure with all levels of staff.

- The position is located in the Special Litigation Section, Directorate Division, and may be filled in Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles or San Diego.
The Deputy Attorney General Supervisor classification qualifies for a "Hire Above Minimum" (HAM) salary. The starting salary will be:
- Deputy Attorney General Supervisor (8 years): $14,228
New to State candidates will be hired at the starting HAM salary of the classification.
