Location: Hartford
The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) is seeking dedicated and motivated interns to support our Immigration Legal Team. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in immigration law, human rights, and social justice. Interns will gain hands-on experience working with attorneys and legal staff, assisting clients navigating the U.S. immigration system.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Assist attorneys and legal staff with case preparation, research, and document drafting.
- Conduct intake interviews with clients and assist in gathering necessary documentation.
- Support clients in completing immigration applications and forms.
- Maintain accurate client records and case files.
- Observe legal consultations and attend relevant hearings or community outreach events.
- Assist with translation and interpretation
- Perform administrative tasks as needed to support legal team operations.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate, with an interest in immigration law, social justice, or related fields.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
- Spanish fluency
- Commitment to CIRI's mission and values.
Internship Details:
- Unpaid internship (academic credit may be available depending on your institution's requirements).
- Flexible schedule based on availability, with a preference for at least 10-15 hours per week.
- Locations: In-person at CIRI's Hartford office. This internship offers valuable exposure to immigration legal services and direct client interactions. Interns will leave with a deeper understanding of immigration law, policy, and advocacy.
