What is Fort Worth Housing Solutions (FWHS)?
Fort Worth Housing Solutions manages Housing Choice Vouchers and other rental assistance programs that help families and individuals cover housing costs. FWHS works closely with numerous partners to promote economic independence and positive change in the lives of more than 33,000 individuals every day.
As the Legal Assistant/Paralegal, you will prepare and maintain legal documents and records, perform legal research, identify pending and current legislation that affects the programs or requirements of FWHS, and assist in the planning, organization, and coordination of reporting and operations of Fort Worth Housing Solutions. The duties of this position will include internal review of operations, procedures, and policy implementation and revision.
In this role, the Legal Assistant/Paralegal’s primary job responsibilities include:
- Prepares and maintains correspondence, leases and deeds, agreements, and other records and documents for General Counsel and legal department staff.
- Assist the General Counsel and legal department staff in investigations, fact-finding, and preparation of summaries and reports related to legal matters.
- Analyze and organize various data for development and maintenance of logs, summaries, checklists, and databases of for use by legal department staff and internal business partners, and other purposes.
- Prepare filings for the Secretary of State to ensure updated registered agents, contact addresses, and other required information and reporting.
- Corresponds with internal business partners, external counsel, and third-party partners and property managers related to legal and compliance matters.
- Prepares public notices, reports, and other documents as requested.
- Monitors and researches legislation and regulations related to affordable and public housing, and disseminates to affected departments.
- Provide general administrative support for legal department answers and makes calls, prepares and responds to correspondence, greets and assists visitors, coordinates and facilitates meetings and various appointments.
- Attends meetings both internal and external as needed.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining a records management policy and procedures, including coordinating reviews, storage protocols, and destruction schedules with other departments within FWHS.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Qualifications):
- Associates degree from an accredited College or University in Paralegal Studies or related field, or ABA-approved paralegal certificate; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Minimum of Three (3) years of progressive experience in highly confidential and responsible positions working directly with attorneys or executive management or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Knowledge of legal principles, procedure, and terminology related to the business of FWHS
- Knowledge of FWHS policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Texas business entity formation and requirements for filing and reporting
- Strong ability to use independent judgment to independently manage workload and responsibilities and implement and communicate decisions
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to proactively prioritize tasks and assignments, and to follow through with completion of work by timeframes provided
- Ability to read, interpret, and summarize complex state and federal legislation and regulations
- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices, business English and math.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing with a variety of audiences
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with other employees, executive leadership, and external business contacts.
- Above average analytical and reasoning skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple demands to accomplish tasks in accordance with established requirements; anticipate potential problems and needs in order to develop and initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Effectively relate to and deal with public and private agencies and residents in order to accomplish organizational goals and complete projects.
- Must possess a current Texas Driver’s License, have a driving record in good standing, and be eligible for coverage under FWHS’s fleet vehicle insurance policy.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
