ROLE OVERVIEW
As the In-House Legal Advisor, you will play a key role in providing accurate, quality and relevant advice on the entire spectrum of legal matters that impact the Company, its services and products. Your subject matter expertise and collaborative strategic thinking in corporate governance, transactional, employment and regulatory compliance domains are essential to ensure the Company takes the appropriate course of action at all times. You will also be expected to maintain current knowledge of updates to local, state, federal laws and international regulations for legal conformities.
Success in this role will be evidenced by delivering timely and insightful legal guidance and solutions, thereby enabling management to make informed and compliant business decisions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Legal Advice. Provide counsel and advice to management team and senior leaders to set the company’s legal strategy on a broad range of matters related to new initiatives and products and other corporate, transactional, employment and regulatory matters.
- Contract Drafting and Review. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights and to mitigate potential liability.
- Risk Management. Identify legal risks and provide solutions to mitigate them. Manage and mitigate legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Human Resources Support. Assist the Human Resources team with employment related legal matters, including but not limited to, preparation and review of employment related documents and contracts.
- Litigation Oversight. Manage external legal resources and oversee litigation and dispute resolution process.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration. Liaise with senior members of staff, legal department and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate communication and information exchange.
- Research. Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues and provide recommendations.
- Training. Design and deliver training to employees, stakeholders and other organizational partners on legal and compliance matters.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Technical Expertise
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Bar.
· 5-7 years of experience practicing law, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
AND
· Strong working knowledge of corporate law, contract law, employment law and regulatory compliance.
· Strong ability to create proactive legal strategies to mitigate risk and ensure the company is well positioned legally.
· Sound judgement and ability to analyse situations and information.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, including remote teams.
· Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results within deadlines.
· Significant executive support experience, including supporting C-level executives.
· Proficient in the use of the MS Office suite.
· Experience within a fast-paced and high energy environment; prior experience with a start-up is a plus.
· An aptitude for executing business improvement initiatives.
· Experience troubleshooting problems and providing practical recommendations for solutions.
· Ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround.
· Able to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
· Ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice.
· You're an expert juggler; managing and juggling multiple projects simultaneously.
· Strong leader who can build and oversee a team of legal professionals, including administrative and paralegal support.
