Supplemental Information:
The salary range, which is commensurate with experience, is $51,000 - $56,000. Position is eligible to work remotely\: This position may elect to work one remote day per week or receive a commuter stipend each paycheck. Remote work is with supervisor approval.

What we’re looking for:
The following qualifications and skills are required for this position:

A High School diploma or equivalent.

At least four years of post-secondary education, job training, or progressive office support work experience, including any combination thereof. 

Experience using Microsoft Office applications.

Experience in a team-oriented, professional environment providing full range of administrative support, including skills to coordinate routine to complex work processes and use independent judgment to organize and prioritize functions. 

Excellent data entry skills, customer service skills, good judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team. 

Demonstrated record of punctuality and dependability.

Ability to understand and implement complex rules, regulations, and policies and to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, in a welcoming, diplomatic, and professional manner.

Ability to prioritize and to adjust to changing priorities and demands as needed, meet deadlines, and handle difficult inquiries and situations, both within and outside the Court, tactfully and patiently.

Ability to discern items that can be handled independently and those that require a supervisor’s attention, including ability to quickly determine subject matter of material and necessary action to be taken in a timely manner.

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Attorney Services Specialist within the Office of Attorney Services.  The Attorney Services Specialist performs professional and administrative functions within the Office of Attorney Services regarding the regulation of the practice of law in Ohio and enforcement of the regulations for attorney registration and continuing legal education requirements for attorneys and judges pursuant to the rules and regulations governing the bar and judiciary.

What you will do:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 

Receives, reviews, and assists with resolving routine attorney registration and continuing legal education documents and requests, including but not limited to registration documents. Interprets and applies the Rules for the Government of the Bar of Ohio, regulations, and office policies regarding compliance and enforcement. Enters information into electronic management systems. Uses professional judgment to discern and handle routine processing problems and issues.

Provides guidance to attorneys and judges regarding attorney registration and continuing legal education requirements and deadlines, and other issues related to the regulation of the practice of law. 

Responds to in-person, telephone, and written inquiries from attorneys, judges, sponsors, court staff and justices, and members of the public about attorney registration, continuing legal education, lawyer referral and prepaid legal plans, and related processes overseen by the Office of Attorney Services.  

Responds to inquiries about status of attorney registration documents, continuing legal education requests for credit and attendance, document deficiencies, and decisions of the Commission on Continuing Legal Education.  

Reviews documentation submitted by attorneys to determine whether attorneys are in compliance with applicable rules, processes credit hours submitted by attorneys to cure the attorneys’ past CLE hour deficiencies and prepares appropriate letters to notify attorneys of compliance or noncompliance with CLE rules.  

Enters pending sponsor and attorney applications and other requests for accreditation and credits and enters decisions on those requests into electronic management systems.  Prepares correspondence to appropriate entities and maintains files in accordance with established procedures.

Responds to sponsors’ inquiries about submission of attendance credit for attendees and presenters at CLE activities.  Enters attendance credits in attorneys’ CLE records.  

Generates invoices and receipts and properly accounts for payments.  Prepares bank deposit for submission to the Fiscal Office.  

Processes attorney name change requests by entering information into electronic management systems.

Responds to inquiries about eligibility for exemptions from continuing legal education requirements, processes requests for exemption from continuing legal education requirements, enters decisions in electronic management systems, and prepares written response to attorneys.

Verifies attorney statuses, including information about discipline, registration, and continuing legal education history and compliance record, and updates as needed.  Prepares certificates of good standing, which may include extensive recitation of attorneys’ discipline and sanction record with the Supreme Court.  

Prepares individualized correspondence for attorneys to notify them of their attorney registration and continuing legal education requirements.

Reviews established sponsor applications received in the Office of Attorney.

Reviews routine applications for accreditation from continuing legal education program sponsors to determine if the content meets the requirements of Rule X and its regulations for continuing legal education activities.

Performs general office and administrative duties, including but not limited to typing, filing, copying, proofing, and preparing certifications and reports. 

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.
