Salary
Northrop Grumman’s Law Department is currently seeking a Director, Intellectual Property and Information Governance who will be responsible for providing guidance and leadership on a wide range of legal issues. This attorney will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property, Technology and Information Law.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Managing a team of legal professionals including paralegals and licensing analysts
- Leading and supervising Northrop Grumman’s intellectual property licensing practice
- Providing thought leadership, driving development and implementation of procedures and strategy on information governance topics including data protection and governance, artificial intelligence, privacy law, protection of government information, digital environments, and digital engineering
- Leading and supporting a variety of strategic enterprise-level issues pertaining to intellectual property, technology, and information law
- Providing strategic counseling to business partners in collaboration with other in-house attorneys for enterprise level and customer-facing issues, including serving as a key licensing strategist, working closely with strategy and business functions
- Monitoring developments in policy, legal and regulatory requirements in intellectual property and information governance areas and advising business partners on best practices
- Collaborating with other attorneys and business partners on issues related to cybersecurity and software strategy
- Supporting the enterprise on issues related to trademarks, brand management, advertising, marketing, and consultant and supplier agreements
- Providing strategic counseling and thought leadership on internal and external committees relating to intellectual property and information governance
- Developing and conducting enterprise-wide training on intellectual property and information governance topics
We are seeking a candidate with the following background:
- Highly motivated individual with strong analytical and process-development skills, clear and strategic thinking, exceptional judgment, sense of accountability, integrity and a record of managing complex intellectual property and information governance matters
- Ability to provide accurate, timely, and pragmatic advice
- Ability to identify issues, create and plan enterprise-level strategies and drive a team to successful implementation
- Ability to manage a team of experienced legal professionals
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative and inclusive environment, with the ability to engage and motivate others through thought leadership
- Strong time-management and organizational skills, responsiveness, and a demonstrated ability to balance multiple competing priorities
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Active state bar membership
- At least 12 years’ experience in intellectual property law and information governance disciplines (e.g., government data protection, cybersecurity, or privacy law) at a law firm, government, or as in-house counsel
- Experience with U.S. government contract intellectual property and information security regulations (FAR and DFARS)
- Experience working closely with other lawyers, technologists and business leaders on information governance issues
- U.S. citizenship required. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a DOD Secret level security clearance.
