DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in providing both administrative and legal clerical support. Their responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including the typing, formatting, editing, and proofreading of various legal documents such as pleadings, petitions, appeals, liens, writs of execution, and other related filings. Additionally, they assist in drafting general correspondence for attorneys and support staff within the Division. The Legal Assistant is also tasked with compiling, organizing, and documenting information, as well as updating and maintaining logs and case files. They are responsible for reaching out to courts, legal counsel, clients, and other relevant parties to gather or communicate information as instructed.

In addition to these primary duties, Legal Assistants may undertake various other clerical tasks. These can include managing incoming and outgoing mail, answering phone calls, scanning documents, faxing materials, operating copy machines, maintaining calendars, and overseeing the functionality of office equipment. Their multifaceted role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of legal processes and supporting the overall efficiency of the legal team.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day per week (anticipated). In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires six or more months of full-time experience working in a legal office/setting.
