Job Description

The Opportunity

A prominent law firm in Essex County, NJ office seeks a Litigation Paralegal to support its corporate litigation practice. This is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity with a hybrid schedule :  Mondays and Fridays are work from home days;  Tuesdays through Thursdays are onsite. The hourly rate is $40-$50. 

Primary Duties: 

The Litigation Paralegal plays a key role in supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation and arbitration, ensuring compliance with administrative deadlines, court procedures, and case-specific requirements. This position demands strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhere to all firm and manager-set administrative deadlines, including bi-weekly workload/availability updates, Aderant time entry, and Dayforce timesheet submissions.

  • Complete goals as outlined in the Performance Management evaluation process.

  • Monitor and respond to work-related emails while away from the office.

  • Meet all billable hour requirements as established by the department.

  • Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files.

  • Maintain dockets for all active court, arbitration, and agency matters; track all deadlines and case activity.

  • Handle court filings and service of process in compliance with court rules and timelines.

  • Review and docket all incoming court documents; notify attorneys of relevant updates.

  • Maintain calendars, tickler systems, and provide timely reminders of critical deadlines.

  • Assist with court filings: cite/fact-check briefs, review for Bluebook compliance, proofread, and assemble exhibits/appendices.

  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, and other databases.

  • Draft discovery materials and pleadings for attorney review.

  • Collaborate with Practice Support and attorneys on document collection, review, and production.

  • Support all stages of trial/arbitration prep: manage exhibits, coordinate with courtroom personnel, vendors, clients, and witnesses.

  • Prepare production documents, including chronologies, logs (production, redaction, privilege), and related materials.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (a must have).

  • Minimum 4 years of litigation paralegal experience at a large law firm.

  • Corporate/business litigation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of New York and New Jersey court systems and filing procedures.

  • Proficient with docketing systems (e.g., BEC Legal) and Electronic Court Filing (ECF) processes.

  • Advanced experience with litigation support software (e.g., Relativity, Trial Director).

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and client service skills.

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and support staff at all levels.
