Job Description
The Senior Corporate Counsel will report directly to the Company’s Chief Legal Officer and will be responsible for a broad range of legal matters, including employment compliance, contracts, and litigation management. The Senior Corporate Counsel will be an employment law expert, having at least 5 years of experience practicing employment law in California. The position will focus heavily on employment compliance and also on contract drafting, review and negotiation.

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $180,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training.

Job Description
The Senior Corporate Counsel will report directly to the Company’s Chief Legal Officer and will be responsible for a broad range of legal matters, including employment compliance, contracts, and litigation management. The Senior Corporate Counsel will be an employment law expert, having at least 5 years of experience practicing employment law in California. The position will focus heavily on employment compliance and also on contract drafting, review and negotiation.
Responsibilities
- Establish positive relationships and work collaboratively with business leaders and company employees to achieve desired objectives, minimize risk, and provide sound legal advice.
- Partner with Human Resources and provide advice on employment compliance issues.
- Review and draft employment-related policies and procedures.
- Assist with training on labor and employment compliance.
- Proactively monitor legislation, regulations, and emerging trends in labor and employment law.
- Support and assist with internal employee investigations.
- Supervise and assist with the preparation of the company’s response to agency charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state agencies.
- Supervise and assist with employment litigation including issuing litigation hold notices, conducting interviews, gathering data, assisting with discovery, and assisting with strategy and mediation preparation.
- Draft, review, redline, and negotiate customer contracts, vendor contracts, independent contractor agreements, staffing agency agreements, NDAs, severance agreements, and other corporate contracts.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
Qualifications
- J. D. from an accredited law school.
- 5+ years prior experience as an attorney practicing in a law firm or in-house with a focus on employment law.
- Contracts experience preferred.
- Litigation experience preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly assess potential for risk and opportunity.
- Strong analytical skills, legal research, writing, negotiation and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently under time pressure in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic and focus on excellence and efficiency in serving internal clients.
