ABOUT THE POSITION
The Office of Court Strategy and Innovation is seeking a skilled Investigating Attorney. As an Investigating Attorney, you will work closely with and assist the Court's Presiding Judge, Assistant Presiding Judge, and Supervising Judges in reviewing and investigating allegations of judicial misconduct submitted to the Court and ensure judicial complaints are addressed promptly and adequately. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, screen, and process complaints alleging judicial misconduct.
- Analyze all complaints received by the Presiding Judge for potential violation of the California Code of Judicial Ethics.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, opinions, letters, and recommendations related to complaints against judicial officers.
- Draft letters to complainants for review by the Assistant Presiding Judge.
- For complaints referred to a Supervising Judge of a Division for investigation, draft referral memoranda.
- Provide investigation support and guidance to supervising judges as they gather and review evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports regarding complaints against judicial officers.
- Maintain open lines of communication with the Presiding Judge, Assistant Presiding Judge, Supervising Judges, and other court staff to ensure efficient handling of complaints.
- Oversee the work of the legal analyst and other staff assigned to assist in the processing and review of complaints against judicial officers.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records of every complaint and investigation, ensuring compliance with court policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the handling of complaints against judicial officers.
THIS IS A TELEWORK ELIGIBLE OPPORTUNITY
This is a partial telework role, subject to change based upon the needs of the Court.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements at the time of application:
Juris Doctorate* from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association –AND– five (5) years of experience in conducting investigations, legal research, litigation, or judicial administration.*To qualify for Options that require educational credentials, you must attach the required documentation to your application. Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio (e.g., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.

- Knowledge of Court organization, functions, rules, policies, procedures, and forms.
- Familiarity with California Code of Judicial Ethics.
- Experience investigating complaints.
- Experience with HR Acuity or similar case management software.
