Senior Counsel – Intellectual PropertyWhat does a successful Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property do?
At Fiserv, a successful Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property will provide expert legal support in areas such as open-source software, technology licensing, commercial issues, intellectual property litigation, and AI. As a trusted partner, you will offer counsel to business stakeholders on complex legal matters and requests from third parties, ensuring Fiserv's interests are safeguarded while promoting innovation. You will be part of a collaborative environment, working closely with the IP legal team and Fiserv's technology, product, and business professionals.
What you will do:
- Advise on intellectual property litigation and be the first line of support for open-source software requests
- Manage technology licensing and commercial issues
- Collaborate with the IP legal team and all relevant business professionals at Fiserv
- Provide counsel on legal matters to business stakeholders
- Evaluate and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards
- Facilitate clear and effective communication with internal and external parties
- Support IP litigation disputes, document requests, and investigations
What you will need to have:
- JD from an accredited law school and/or equivalent military experience
- Licensed to practice, or ability to become licensed to practice, in the appropriate jurisdiction
- In good standing with State Bar with no disciplinary record
- 6+ years of experience in intellectual property law in a large law firm or in-house practice at an information technology company
- Experience in open-source software and IP licensing issues
- Experience in managing outside counsel
What would be great to have:
- Admission to the USPTO bar
- 7+ years of experience in IP litigation
- Experience with technology licensing and commercial issues
- Experience advising on AI-related legal matters
- Experience in a leadership role within a legal team

- This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
