About the Role

The Information Governance Operations Lead is an integral part of Latham’s Information Governance team. This role will be responsible for overseeing and assisting with supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Information Governance Operations team, including file management (both physical and electronic), file intake, file releases, destruction requests, data access requests, case room management, and records retention, while identifying opportunities to enhance the Information Governance program by utilizing a thorough understanding of information management, security, and privacy principles. This role will be located in either our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with educating firm personnel regarding the appropriate locations where data should be stored, understanding the firm’s systems and software tools, and acting as a resource regarding various information governance questions for staff, attorneys, and other users
  • Leading and performing all aspects for all information governance processes including file intakes, releases, destructions, and data access requests for the office, ensuring compliance with firm policies and ensuring completion of the relevant process, and responding to questions from staff and other users and provides instruction and training as needed
  • Implementing records retention policies and procedures, ascertaining which files are subject to retention, communicating with attorneys and clients regarding the disposition of files, and maintaining meticulous records regarding file disposition
  • Assisting as necessary with the organization, classification, preparation, space coordination, and collection of files within systems and databases and the central filing area, case rooms, file cabinets, offsite storage facilities, or wherever files may be found
  • Assisting with developing, maintaining, and coordinating appropriate inventory systems to track persons responsible for the files, room usage, file status and location, and other factors related to effective space management and Information Governance Operations oversight
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills (i.e., organizing, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making) necessary for effective supervision
  • Possess extensive knowledge of information governance, data security and privacy principles, best practices, and procedures
  • Exhibit the ability to oversee work of others to ensure compliance and accuracy

And have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant Information Governance or Records experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience, preferably at a law firm

Pay Range
USD $130,000.00 - USD $140,000.00 /Yr.
