Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm located in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people who are disabled or homeless, people living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless veterans.
Position Description: ICLC seeks dynamic attorneys who are passionate about justice and combatting homelessness to join ICLC’s fight to end homelessness by applying for the Staff Attorney position with ICLC’s Tenant Defense Project (TDP). The Staff Attorney will carry a caseload of eviction defense (unlawful detainer) cases and help expand our tenant defense work. Our Team is part of the groundbreaking Right to Counsel Coalition and Countywide Stay Housed initiative that brings together more than 20 legal service providers and community-based organization to prevent homelessness by defending homes. The Staff Attorney will engage in fast-paced litigation; work with an eviction defense team including attorneys and paralegals to negotiate with opposing counsel; work directly with clients to help them stay housed; prepare discovery requests and responses; draft pleadings, motions, and correspondence; negotiate settlements; conduct unlawful detainer bench and jury trials; and pursue appellate remedies. In addition to carrying their own caseload, the Staff Attorney will participate in community outreach events and legal clinics and workshops in partnership with community-based organizations. They will also contribute to conversations surrounding housing policy in Los Angeles County and work with volunteer attorneys from private law firms who are providing pro bono representation to clients facing eviction. Through their work, the Staff Attorney will ensure safe and affordable housing, prevent families from being evicted into homelessness, and help end homelessness in Los Angeles.

Excellent negotiation skills. Ability to assume responsibility quickly and work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Ability to use good judgment, multitask, and meet short-notice deadlines. Ability to interact with a wide range of clients in a kind, appropriate, client-centered manner. Access to reliable transportation. Membership in the California Bar is required. A minimum of 1-2 years of litigation experience.
This position will serve a nine-month probationary period. ICLC has a hybrid work environment with remote and onsite work available.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $78,000 - $88,500 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
