Job Duties:- The Legal Assistant performs administrative legal work in a legal office of the Department of Social Services in support of the DSS mission. Performs administrative duties in support of agency attorneys; provides general and specialized administrative support.
- Organizes and maintains documents in paper and electronic filing systems. Utilizes and maintains information in systems for retention and retrieval of correspondence, files, pleadings, records, and reports. Maintains current information in LCMS with accuracy and updates as appropriate. Coordinates all LCMS information and scanning of all documents for LCMS.
- Assists assigned attorney(s) and/or paralegals in scheduling meetings, court dates, and monitoring case related deadlines. Drafts correspondence, legal forms, and other documents for review and signature of an attorney or paralegal. Assists attorneys and/or paralegals in collecting information such as employment, medical, and other records. Assist attorneys and/or paralegals in the production of files and discovery in legal actions.
- Creates reports, including push reports and Title IV reports, at the request of county director and/or attorney.
- Communicates on behalf of attorney or legal unit with various organization staff, including county director, adoptions, IFCCS, state office, or GAL for information regarding cases, court hearings, and Orders.
- Assembles and delivers legal documents for cases to appropriate reporting entities regarding timeliness of hearings and other issues. Assembles, transports, files and distributes legal pleadings and documents with the Court.
- Will be required to perform Red Cross shelter/emergency response duties as directed.
- Minimum and Additional Requirements
A High School Diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
- Preferred Qualifications
Completion of paralegal courses and/or a paralegal certificate.

Must have a valid driver’s license and access to motor vehicle. Ability to enter information into computer. Must have a high tolerance for noise or irate clients. Must be able to travel to attend regional and/or state meetings and training.
