POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team specializing in energy, oil & gas litigation and other complex legal matters. The Paralegal is responsible for supporting multiple attorneys in the Firm and is expected to have a high degree of responsibility for project management and implementation. This position will support attorneys in handling state and federal court filings, and research related to various land and well file investigations. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Handle state and federal court filings to ensure timely and accurate submission of documents and exhibits. Monitor filing deadlines and maintain accurate filing records
  • Draft documents, file motions, and prepare letters and correspondence
  • Communicate with clients, experts, court staff, and others to gather information, provide updates, and respond to inquiries 
  • Monitor and review procedural rules of court, and manage the implementation of procedural rules for all filings
  • Assist attorneys in daily case management
  • Interact with other paralegals to assist with heavy workload or coverage
  • Prepare tables of contents and indexes for court filings
  • Review, cull and summarize document production, and prepare organized indexes and filing systems for documents
  • Prepare documents and exhibits for discovery production and court filings, incorporate redactions and bates labels
  • Organize and maintain case files, attorney notebooks, databases, spreadsheets and other materials
  • Administratively support firm business development, if needed
  • Research land records, mineral rights, and well files to gather pertinent information for litigation and compliance matters

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Associate’s degree in paralegal or legal studies or other related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of legal experience required, and 4+ years in legal experience preferred. Experience locating land records and Oklahoma Corporation Commission filings preferred, or willingness to learn such tasks. 

Court Filings: Experience with state and federal court filings, e-filing systems, and compliance with court rules.

Computer Skills: Skilled with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and legal research tools. Experience with legal document management systems is a plus. Must be willing to learn new technological applications. 

Certificates & Licenses: Paralegal certification from ABA-approves program is preferred.

Other Requirements: Excellent problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills to maintain work lists, organize documents, and monitor deadlines and filings. Ability to ask questions, clarify issues, and provide project updates as needed. Excellent written and oral communication skills (comprehension & expression). Strong command of the English language, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style. Detail-oriented and ability to create, compose, proof and edit correspondence. Possess sense of initiative and responsibility to manage case load and maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressured environment and maintain case/trial deadlines. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment is in a professional office setting. The majority of activity this role performs will be sedentary work.
