
Job Description
The Legal and Confidential Secretary for the Tribal Courts, under general supervision, performs a variety of difficult and complex clerical duties.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Greet and direct callers in person and over the phone; open, sort, and distribute mail; maintain confidential information which is not to be disseminated.
- Manage the daily/weekly/monthly agenda and arrange new meetings and appointments.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings and appointments for staff.
- Maintain office supplies and place the appropriate orders.
- Copy documents, assemble materials and reports for dissemination.
- Provide clerical and technical support to the Tribal Court.
- Organize and maintain legal documents, indexes, and update pleadings and documents in files.
- Collect and deliver documents, run office errands, provide backup to court clerks, when necessary.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge.
- Assist in community projects as assigned by supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School Diploma and 2 years secretary or equivalent experience.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
- Must be bondable.
- Must be willing to become a notary within six months of being hired.
Reports to Chief Court Clerk.
COMPETENCIES · Knowledge of current technological software programs, specifically Microsoft Programs. · Knowledge of Nisqually Tribal Community. · Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. · Ability to work under stressful conditions and/or potentially violent situations and manage difficult people. · Ability to meet strict deadlines. · Ability to pay great attention to detail. · Ability to exercise good judgement, flexibility, and creativity while being culturally sensitive. · Ability to work cooperatively with groups and individuals in an efficient and effective manner. · Ability to present clear and concise information in a courtroom setting.
